The Ford Motor Company announced they have recalled over 680,000 vehicles due to a defect that may cause a serious safety hazard. The heat generated by the pre-tensioners engaging could cause the cables holding them in to fail, resulting in the seatbelt not holding the passenger during a crash. The recall will begin in January 2017. Vehicle owners can take their vehicle in for a repair at no cost.

The affected vehicles include the Ford Fusion (model years 2013-2016), Lincoln MKZ (model years 2013-2015), and Ford Mondeo (model years 2015-2016). Ford has stated that most of the affected vehicles are in the United States, Canada, and Mexico.

Ford is aware of two injuries related to this safety issue, but no deaths as of yet.

Other Ford Recalls

Ford has been no stranger to recalls in recent years. The Fusion model has been particularly impacted as of late. In 2015, Ford announced a recall on more than 480,000 units, most of which were Fusions, which were experiencing corrosion in electrical power steering motor mounting bolts due to salt and road grime. That same week 2013 and 2014 model years were once recalled again for a door latch issue that caused the doors to swing open unexpectedly.

The popular line of F-150 pickups has been heavily impacted as well. The 2015 model year alone has been recalled for four different issues, including a seatbelt issue similar to that of the most recent Fusion recall, as well as a potential total steering loss due to an improperly riveted steering shaft.

Injured in a Recall? Call an Attorney!

Auto manufacturers are required by law to ensure their vehicles are fit to operate with as low a safety risk as possible. This means that if a part has a high chance of going defective due to a construction or design flaw, it is the duty of the manufacturer to fix or replace it to maintain the safety of their customers. If you or a loved one has been injured as a result of a defective car part or technology, be sure to contact an Attorney immediately to review your legal options.
